Cord Length

Cord length is a very important feature in any hair dryer. You don’t want to be stuck near an outlet because the cord is too short, especially if the outlet is in an awkward place. The CHI Pro has an amazing 11-foot long cord. Most hair dryers come with a nine-foot cord or shorter, so this is definitely an area that the CHI Pro excels in.

Power

The use of the hair dryer should determine how many watts your hair dryer should be. Since the CHI Pro is a ceramic hair dryer, it’s better suited for thin/fine to medium hair. This type of hair does not benefit from turbo air velocity. In fact, having air that is too forceful can mess up your intended hairstyle. We appreciate that the CHI Pro takes this into consideration with a modest 1500 watts. While this might not be suitable for thick hair, neither is ceramic hair dryers so this amount of watts works just fine for the hair dryer’s intended purpose.

Attachments

The CHI Pro hair dryer actually comes with a diffuser in addition to the concentrator. This isn’t common–most high-end hair dryers require you to buy the diffuser separately. That’s IF they even offer a diffuser for their hair dryer. This gives the CHI Pro a bunch of cool points in our book.

Warranty

We include warranties as one of the judging criteria because warranties tend to be a good judge of character. If the company has enough faith in their product to offer a good warranty, we can have faith in it also. The CHI Pro hair dryer comes with a two-year warranty while most hair dryers come with only a one year warranty. This is a good indication that the hair dryer is going to work well for a long time if you take care of it.

Drying Time

Normally ceramic hair dryers tend to be the slowest when drying hair but the CHI Pro combines the ceramic technology with an ion generator and infrared light to speed up the drying process without zapping your hair to death. It’s not just fancy words for marketing–the CHI Pro does seem to dry hair faster than other ceramic hair dryers.

Heat Output

The heat that it produces is even, soft, and gentle. We don’t like the fact that the CHI Pro only has one heat setting, but, again, this hair dryer seems to have been manufactured for a specific type of hair and the heat that it has works great for that purpose.

Handling the Dryer

Handling this hair dryer can be slightly awkward because its heavy, but this is balanced out by the curved, ergonomic handle. It has a sort of “centering” effect on the weight of the hair dryer so it doesn’t fatigue your hand as much as other heavy hair dryers. The buttons are directly in the path of your fingers, unfortunately, so we hope that in future models the manufacturer will address this.

How Does The CHI Pro Compare?

CHI Rocket vs. CHI Pro

In the case of these hair dryers, they have a few differences that don’t necessarily make one better than the other, but makes them suitable for different uses. They have similar technologies, combining ceramic with ionic and infrared light. They are also both very heavy, but unfortunately, the CHI rocket doesn’t have an ergonomic handle.

They do have an apparent power difference. The CHI Rocket has 1800 watts while the CHI Pro only has 1500. This is overkill for thin hair but suitable for thicker hair. Other than these minor differences, these hair dryers are basically the same. If you just want a hair dryer with more power, choose the Rocket.

CHI Pro vs. HOT TOOLS Helen Of Troy Signature Series

We’ll start by saying there are some major differences between these two hair dryers. In fact, the only similarities are that they’re both ceramic hair dryers and they both come with a concentrator attachment. Unfortunately, the HOT TOOLS just looks cheaply made. It could possibly be the choice to make this a white hair dryer that makes it appear like cheap plastic.

There is a power difference, HOT TOOLS has 1875 watts, but this isn’t enough to lean one way or the other. The big difference is that the HOT TOOLS costs A LOT less than the CHI. So if you need a budget option, the HOT TOOLS is just that.

CHI Pro vs. T3 Featherweight Luxe 3i

These two hair dryers are very different from each other in just about every aspect. Just like the HOT TOOLS, the price is a major difference between the T3 Featherweight and the CHI Pro, except in this case the T3 costs almost twice as much on average. They are both, good hair dryers, but the T3 is better if you have it in your budget. If not, the CHI Pro is a better budget choice (it’s not a budget dryer in any sense, but compared to the T3 it’s budget).

The only real similarities in the hair dryers are that they both have a cool shot, a concentrator nozzle, and a two-year warranty. The T3 is much more powerful at 1800 watts and works via a completely different technology altogether. The SoftAire technology in the T3 makes it suitable for all hair types. Another major difference is the weight, the T3 weighs less than one pound, so it’s much easier to work with and great for people with wrist problems.

In this CHI Pro hairdryer review, we’ve pointed out all the good and less desirable qualities of the CHI Pro dryer. While its suitability is limited to one or two hair types, it works extremely well for them. If you have thin to medium hair, we recommend this hair dryer. It’s on the low-priced side of high-end hair dryers so depending on how you look at it, you’d be doing yourself a favor by saving money without sacrificing quality.
